Las Vegas Aces centre, Megan Gustafson, has been honoured with the opportunity to represent the 2024 Spain Olympic Women’s Basketball Team, thereby realizing her aspiration of competing as an Olympian. She has conveyed her appreciation and enthusiasm for the chance to represent Spain in Paris this month.
Following her debut for Spain in the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Gustafson demonstrated her capability by achieving an average of 14.3 points and 3.3 rebounds, contributing to Spain’s 2-1 record and securing its place in the Olympics. Spain is scheduled to participate in the preliminary round Group A matches, facing China, Puerto Rico, and Serbia on July 28, 31, and August 3, respectively. The quarterfinals will take place on August 7, with the semifinals on August 9 and the medal games on August 11.
Having previously attained a silver medal in the 2016 Olympics, Spain is resolute in leaving an impression in the forthcoming games. This marks Spain’s fifth appearance in the Olympic women’s basketball tournament, following prior participations in 1992, 2004, 2016, and 2020.
Joining a contingent of six Aces players participating in Paris, including Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, A’ja Wilson, and Jackie Young representing the U.S. team, and Tiffany Hayes competing in 3×3 basketball for Azerbaijan, Gustafson is poised to contribute to the Olympic event.
The Olympic tournament will encompass three preliminary round groups, with the top two teams from each group, in addition to the two best third-place teams, progressing to the quarterfinals.
