Free Tennis in Worcester City Council Parks

Following the conclusion of Wimbledon this past weekend, Worcester City Council has announced an exciting development. They are pleased to offer 385 hours of complimentary tennis at Cripplegate Park and Gheluvelt Park. This collaborative effort with provider Freedom Leisure is set to provide tennis enthusiasts with access to the courts on specific days and times over the next five weeks, namely Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Councillor Jabba Riaz, Worcester City Council’s Deputy Leader and Communities Committee Chair, has expressed his enthusiasm for the project. He cordially invites individuals of all ages and skill levels to take advantage of this promising opportunity. His primary goal is to introduce more individuals to the game and to highlight the exceptional facilities available at the parks. Councillor Riaz also expressed his hope that this initiative could potentially pave the way for future tennis stars to emerge from the city.

To partake in the complimentary tennis sessions, interested parties are required to make a booking. Reservations for free court usage can be made at www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/FreedomLeisureTennis. Beginning on July 17th, five courts at Cripplegate Park and two courts at Gheluvelt Park will be available for complimentary use every Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. Moreover, the courts will be accessible for free play on Saturdays and Sundays between 2pm and 6pm. This program will continue until August 18th.

Lisa Kordas, General Manager of Freedom Leisure, has expressed her excitement about the collaboration with Worcester City Council. She underscores that this initiative not only grants complimentary access to the tennis courts but also provides rackets and balls upon request. Kordas urges residents to seize this opportunity to enjoy the sport with friends and family, regardless of their level of expertise.

This remarkable initiative by the Worcester City Council and Freedom Leisure aims to encourage community participation and physical activity in an engaging and accessible manner. By granting complimentary access to tennis courts and equipment, they are motivating individuals to embrace the sport and reap its myriad benefits.

Therefore, if you find yourself in Worcester and seek an enjoyable and active way to spend your summer, do not miss the chance to unleash your inner Serena Williams or Rafael Nadal at Cripplegate Park and Gheluvelt Park. Whether you are an experienced player or a complete beginner, this is your opportunity to take full advantage of the city’s tennis amenities.

Let us grab those rackets, head to the courts, and fully embrace this outstanding initiative presented to us by Worcester City Council and Freedom Leisure.
