Numerous members of the Kansas State Men’s Basketball team generously donated their time to a youth sports camp in Manhattan, Kansas. The camp, organized by three local churches, Mt. Zion Family Worship Center, Manhattan Christian Fellowship, and Westview Community, was held at the Douglass Centers and Douglass Park.
Demonstrating a positive influence in the community, incoming transfers Coleman Hawkins, Max Jones, Dug McDaniel, and Baye Fall were among the Wildcats’ players who participated in the event. Jones emphasized the importance of engaging with the community alongside his new teammates. He expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to bond with his fellow players outside of the basketball court.
The camp provided sports activities such as basketball, volleyball, track and field, and karate for children aged five to fourth grade. While the players were only present on Wednesday night, the camp had been ongoing for two weeks and is scheduled to end with a celebration at the City Park Pavilion.
The grand finale will consist of a joint service, pool party, and barbecue. The event has been open to all children, free of charge, offering them a wonderful opportunity to participate in healthy and active lifestyles.
Jones and the rest of the Wildcats men’s basketball team are feeling eager and prepared for the upcoming season. Despite the season being three months away, Jones expressed his excitement about the team’s current training and readiness for the challenges ahead.
It is truly inspiring to witness these young athletes giving back to the community and serving as role models for the younger generation. Their commitment to volunteering at the youth sports camp sets a commendable example for other aspiring athletes to emulate.
