Despite her courageous battle against the neurodegenerative atypical parkinsonism syndrome, medical interventions proved futile, prompting her to donate her brain for research purposes. Her family lovingly recollected her incomparable career spanning over six decades, during which she captured the hearts of audiences not only in Asia but globally, earning her the title of “legendary Queen of Martial Arts.”
Cheng Pei-pei made an indelible impact on the Hong Kong film industry, particularly in the 1960s, when she rose to stardom with her exceptional performances in martial arts films. One of her most iconic roles was in the 1966 film “Come Drink with Me,” directed by King Hu. However, she truly cemented her legacy with her portrayal of the formidable Jade Fox in “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” a role that garnered widespread acclaim alongside fellow actors Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh. The film grossed an astounding $128.1 million in North America and secured four Oscars upon its release in 2000.
