According to reports, Manchester United is currently considering the possibility of hijacking the transfer of French midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who has reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with AC Milan. This prospective move comes as United actively seeks to strengthen their midfield options this summer.
The Red Devils have already secured deals for Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, and are currently in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain for Manuel Ugarte, with the Ligue 1 club valuing him at £58 million. Additionally, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is also being considered by United as they explore ways to bolster their midfield.
Despite AC Milan’s apparent agreement with Fofana, reports from France suggest that both Manchester United and another Champions League club remain interested in the Monaco star and are contemplating a potential summer move, despite the apparent agreement with Milan.
AC Milan’s pursuit of Fofana is experiencing difficulties as the club and Monaco have yet to come to an agreement on a transfer fee, with the 25-year-old midfielder having just one year left on his contract. Initially, Monaco had set an asking price of around €25 million for Fofana, but it has been reported that they may potentially accept a lower bid of around €18 million.
Manchester United faced midfield issues last season, particularly with Casemiro’s inconsistent form. The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, although no formal offers have surfaced as of yet. Furthermore, Scott McTominay has attracted interest from Fulham, but the club rejected an offer from the London-based team.
In addition, the Red Devils have decided not to exercise their option to sign Sofyan Amrabat for €20 million following his loan spell at the club last summer.
As the summer transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Manchester United will pursue Fofana or look to other targets to address their midfield concerns.
