Tennis Player Gets Disqualified for Hitting Umpire with Ball

Hey guys, I’ve got some crazy tennis news for you! So, this Australian tennis player named Marc Polmans was playing in the final round of qualifying at the Shanghai Masters. He was actually winning the match against Italy’s Stefano Napolitano, but things took a turn for the worse. Polmans missed his second match point and got really frustrated. He hit the ball in anger, but guess what? It ended up hitting the chair umpire, Ben Anderson, right in the face! Ouch! Luckily, the umpire wasn’t seriously hurt, but Polmans got disqualified for his reckless behavior. Talk about a major bummer! Now, Napolitano gets to advance to the main draw in Shanghai. This incident reminded me of when Denis Shapovalov got in trouble during the Davis Cup in 2017. He also got disqualified for hitting the chair umpire, and that poor umpire even suffered a fractured eye socket. Yikes! It seems like hitting umpires is becoming a trend in tennis. Remember when Tim Henman and his doubles partner got disqualified at Wimbledon in 1995? Henman slammed a ball towards the net and accidentally hit a ball girl in the ear. And let’s not forget about Novak Djokovic, who got disqualified during the 2020 US Open for hitting a lineswoman with a ball. These players really need to work on their aim! Anyway, Polmans has never made it to the main draw of a Masters 1000 event, so this disqualification is definitely a setback for him. Let’s hope he learns from this and keeps his temper in check in the future. Tennis can be a heated game, but we’ve got to remember to play fair and respect the officials. Stay tuned for more tennis drama, folks!
