A tragic accident occurred yesterday at 4:30 pm on Via Bidente, the road that runs from Ronco to Carpena and then Meldola. A 37-year-old man from Meldola lost his life in a head-on collision between a car and a motorcycle. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for him, and he died instantly. The ambulance personnel from Vecchiazzano Hospital were unable to save him.
The details of the accident are still unclear. Local police officers arrived at the scene to investigate and manage the traffic flow. The road had to be partially closed, causing some inconvenience to drivers. Traffic was redirected for at least a couple of hours.
According to the initial findings by the police, the point of impact between the car and the motorcycle (a scooter) was on Via Della Grotta, at the end of the first straight section of Via Bidente, just after a sharp curve (coming from Forlì).
The victim was riding the scooter towards Meldola, most likely heading home. On the other hand, the Toyota Yaris car was traveling in the opposite direction towards Ronco. The collision, as reported by the local police, was head-on. The road was slippery due to heavy rain at the time, making it impossible to determine if either of them applied the brakes as there were no visible traces or tire marks. The visibility was poor, and all these factors could have contributed to the cause of the accident, according to the investigators.
The woman driving the car was in shock but fortunately only suffered minor superficial injuries. In the evening, after the investigation and the removal of the body and vehicles involved, traffic resumed.
