LIV Golf’s Promotions Event: A New Twist on Q School

LIV Golf, the Saudi-backed tour, has announced its upcoming promotions event, which is being dubbed as a new twist on Q School. The event, called LIV Golf Promotions, will take place from December 8-10 at Abu Dhabi Golf Club and will offer players from around the world the opportunity to earn three spots in the league.

According to LIV Golf commissioner and CEO Greg Norman, the event aims to establish an integrated pathway for the best players and up-and-coming talent to join a league that is changing the game. Norman stated, ‘Open competition and meritocracy have always been a part of the fabric of LIV Golf, and following the success of our first full season, we’re excited to launch LIV Golf Promotions and offer players from around the world the chance to qualify for 2024.’

So, what’s different about this promotions event? Well, for starters, it will feature a 72-hole format instead of the usual 54-hole format. However, most of the field will only play the final 54 holes, with 36 of those being contested on the last day.

But that’s not all. The prize money for the event is a whopping $1.5 million, with the winner taking home $200,000. This is four times the amount that last year’s Korn Ferry Tour Q School winner received. The runner-up will receive $150,000, and third place will get $100,000. But here’s the exciting part: the top three finishers will also get drafted onto a team for LIV’s lucrative events in 2024. Additionally, players who finish in the top 10 will receive full exemption for all events on the Asian Tour’s International Series.

Now, let’s talk about eligibility. The promotions event is open to a wide range of players, including qualifiers for Round 1, members of the 2023 Walker and Palmer Cup Teams, and winners and runners-up of various amateur events. It also includes players from the top rankings in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, the International Series 2023 Rankings, and professional tours such as the Japan Golf Tour, KPGA Korean Tour, Sunshine Tour, and PGA Tour of Australasia. Invitations to the event will also be determined by the LIV Golf League.

After Round 1, the top 20 players and ties will move on to Round 2, which includes players who are exempt from Round 1. This includes players from the top rankings in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, the International Series 2023 Rankings, and winners of major championships and sanctioned tournaments.

The final day of the promotions event will be a marathon 36-hole round, with the top three finishers earning a spot in the league. These players will replace the four golfers who were relegated following LIV’s 2023 season, unless any of those four manage to secure a top-three finish in the promotions event.

So, mark your calendars for LIV Golf Promotions, where the best players from around the world will compete for a chance to join the league and make their mark in the world of golf!
