Invergordon’s Quest to Keep the Football Times Cup

Invergordon is gearing up to defend their Football Times Cup trophy this weekend as they face off against Inverness Athletic in the final. Last year, Invergordon emerged victorious in the final, defeating St Duthus with a 3-1 win, courtesy of goals from Ken Morrison and a late double from Andrew Miller. In contrast, Inverness Athletic suffered an early exit in the previous season, losing in a penalty shoot-out after a surprising 2-2 draw against Golspie Sutherland. However, this year, Athletic had a smoother journey to the final.

In the quarter-final, they secured a home victory against Thurso, with goals from Danni Bruce and Aidan Hersee. The semi-final saw them face Bonar Bridge, who proved to be a challenging opponent. Despite Bonar’s resilience, Athletic emerged victorious with goals from Aidan Hersee, Aiden Grant, and Danni Bruce. Invergordon’s path to the final, on the other hand, encountered some bumps along the way.

Initially, they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Loch Ness in the first round. However, their hopes were revived when Loch Ness was disqualified for fielding an ineligible player. In the subsequent matches, Invergordon overcame Clachnacuddin A and Golspie Sutherland, with Blair Morrison, James Ross, Andrew Miller, and Ryan McFee making significant contributions to their victories.

Now, Invergordon finds themselves in their second consecutive final, eager to reclaim the Football Times Cup and secure their first trophy of the season. It’s an exciting prospect for the team, and they are determined to give it their all on the pitch.
