The Lock Haven women’s basketball team has been selected as the sixth-best team in the PSAC Eastern Division, according to the 2023-24 preseason coaches’ poll. The top-six teams in each division will earn a spot in the PSAC Championship Tournament, and Lock Haven is expected to make it to the postseason. The coaches in the PSAC Eastern Division have chosen West Chester as the favorite, with eight out of nine first-place votes. Kutztown received one first-place vote and landed in second place, followed by Millersville in third. Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, and Lock Haven were picked fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. The remaining positions in the East are filled by Millersville, Mansfield, and Shepherd. Last season, Lock Haven had a record of 11-17 overall and 9-13 in the PSAC East. They secured the sixth seed in the conference tournament but lost in the first round to Kutztown University. Lock Haven’s defense was impressive, ranking fourth in the PSAC by holding opponents to under 60 points per game and 39 percent shooting from the field. The team, led by head coach Jennifer Smith, will kick off the 2023-24 season on November 10th at the Atlantic Regional Challenge in Greensburg, PA. They will face Fairmont State on Friday and Concord on Saturday. This season also marks the 13th year for assistant coach Zack Smith.
