Zheng Qinwen Advances to Semifinals in Zhuhai

Hey guys, guess what? Zheng Qinwen just won her match and she’s moving on to the semifinals of the Huafa Technology WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai! It was a super intense match against Jelena Ostapenko, but Zheng came out on top with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Can you believe it?

Zheng, who was named the 2022 WTA Newcomer of the Year, is one of the two Chinese players who made it to the semifinals. The other player is Zhu Lin, who got a wild card entry and qualified from the Rose Group. Zhu’s spot in the semis was secured after Veronika Kudermetova defeated Liudmila Samsonova.

This victory against Ostapenko brings Zheng’s head-to-head record against her to a perfect 3-0. Talk about domination! The match lasted for two hours, and Zheng served a total of 11 aces. She also won the last four games of the match, showing her determination and skill.

But let me tell you, it wasn’t an easy win for Zheng. The match had its ups and downs, with both players fighting hard. In the first set, Zheng broke Ostapenko’s serve in a super intense game that had five deuces. That set the tone for the rest of the match.

In the second set, Ostapenko came back strong and won it convincingly. Zheng struggled to win points on Ostapenko’s serve, but she didn’t let that discourage her. She fought back in the third set, and a crucial game in the middle of the set turned the tide in Zheng’s favor.

Now, here’s the exciting part. Zheng will be facing Zhu in the semifinals. Can you believe they’ve never played against each other at the tour level? It’s going to be a thrilling match, that’s for sure. But here’s a fun fact: back in 2018, when Zheng was just starting her professional career, Zhu defeated her 6-0, 6-1 in a tournament in Jinan, China. It’s amazing to see how far Zheng has come since then!

Let’s all cheer for Zheng as she continues her journey in Zhuhai. Who knows, she might just become the second Chinese player to reach the final in this tournament. Wouldn’t that be incredible? Stay tuned for more updates!
