A couple of lucky fishermen had an incredible encounter with a pod of dolphins off the coast of Llanbedr in Gwynedd. David Holt and Jim Ozanne were out on their boat when four bottlenose dolphins swam up to them. The dolphins were in a playful mood, circling around the boat, ‘bow riding’, and even engaging in a game of ‘dolphin football’ with a large barrel jellyfish. This amazing interaction lasted for about half an hour, which was longer than any previous encounters the fishermen had experienced. It seems that the absence of other boats and jet skis in the area may have contributed to the dolphins’ curiosity and prolonged visit. David and Jim were thrilled by the close encounter, realizing that there are incredible things happening right under our noses that we rarely get to witness.
