The 40th edition of the ‘Auto e Moto d’Epoca’ exhibition, dedicated to vintage cars, recently came to a close in Bologna. This year, the event was held for the first time at the Bologna Fiere instead of Padova. The numbers are in, and the success of the event is evident. One of the highlights was the massive participation of the Italian Historic Automobile Club (ASI) and numerous affiliated clubs under the banner of ‘Orgoglio Italiano’ (Italian Pride).
The ASI Village showcased a true gem: a 1:25 scale model of the famous ‘Amerigo Vespucci’ training ship of the Italian Navy. ASI recently awarded the ship with the ‘Targa Oro’ and certification of Identity. ASI also signed a new agreement with the Italian Navy to promote the cultural, historical, and social value of Italian motorization.
The Lamborghini Miura from the ASI Bertone Collection was another source of ‘Orgoglio Italiano’. It was displayed to celebrate the renowned design studio founded by Nuccio Bertone. The studio was honored with one of the three international awards named ‘FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame’ by the World Federation of Historic Vehicles. ASI also proposed nominations for engineer Giampaolo Dallara and designer Ercole Spada.
The ASI Village also hosted the ASI National Award for Historic Motorsport. This special recognition is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the sector. The 2023 award was posthumously presented to Mariella Mengozzi, the extraordinary director of the National Automobile Museum of Turin.
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta from 1956, the last car owned by Enrico Mattei, was a symbol of ‘Orgoglio Italiano’. Mattei’s grandchildren, Rosangela Mattei and Aroldo Curzi Mattei, paid tribute to their grandfather’s legacy. They highlighted Mattei’s role in bringing dignity to Italy and its citizens.
The ASI Village featured various discussions on topics such as Giotto Bizzarrini, Moto Guzzi, Vespa, Ducati, and current events like professional training and upcoming ASI events.
ASI also had a stand dedicated to vintage motorcycles, where they presented a preview of the 2024 edition of the ‘ASI MotoShow’. The stand showcased iconic motorcycles, including the Aprilia RSV 250 and twelve other two-wheeled beauties.
Alberto Scuro, the President of ASI, expressed his satisfaction with the 40th edition of ‘Auto e Moto d’Epoca’. He emphasized the event’s international recognition and praised the passion, enthusiasm, and expertise of ASI and its volunteers.
In conclusion, the 40th edition of ‘Auto e Moto d’Epoca’ was a resounding success, showcasing the pride and heritage of Italian automotive history.
