Glenn Maxwell, the Australian allrounder, will unfortunately miss the upcoming ODI World Cup match against England in Ahmedabad. He suffered a concussion in a rather unusual incident involving golf. It seems that Maxwell had a bit of a mishap while riding on a golf cart after a round on Monday. He fell off the back of the cart while making his way from the club house to the team bus. Ouch! As a result, he will have to follow concussion protocols for about a week or so.
This setback means that Australia will have to find a replacement for one of their key middle-order players for the game against England. The contenders for the spot are Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green, with Marnus Labuschagne likely to keep his place in the XI. It’s a tough blow for Maxwell, who has been in great form throughout the tournament. He even smashed a record-breaking century off just 40 balls against the Netherlands. Not to mention, he has been a crucial second spinner alongside Adam Zampa.
Despite this setback, Australia is still in a good position to secure a spot in the semi-finals. They have won four consecutive matches and are looking strong. After the England game, they will face Afghanistan and Bangladesh to wrap up the group stage. Let’s hope Maxwell recovers quickly and gets back on the field soon!
