Uganda has a new national football coach! The Belgian, Paul Joseph Put, has been appointed as the head coach of Uganda’s national football team. He takes over from Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, who left the role in September. Put was introduced to the media during a press briefing at the FUFA Complex in Kampala. The president of FUFA, Moses Hassim Magogo, confirmed that Put has signed a two-year contract. Magogo also mentioned that Put will have the freedom to choose his own backroom staff, with five people from Belgium and Ugandans also having the opportunity to be part of the team. Put expressed his gratitude to FUFA for the trust and confidence placed in him and stated that his knowledge of African football will help him do a good job with the Uganda Cranes. The 67-year-old coach has previously worked with national teams in Burkina Faso, Gambia, Kenya, and Congo. Put’s first assignment will be the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with Uganda facing Guinea and Somalia in November. The group also includes Algeria, Mozambique, and Botswana.
