India beat Japan 2-1 in the Asian Games 2023 women’s hockey third-place playoff match to win a bronze medal. Deepika and Sushila Chanu scored for the Indian women’s hockey team while Japanese captain Nagai Yuri netted for her team. The Indian women’s hockey team topped Pool A to make the semi-finals but lost to hosts China in the top-four encounter. In the India vs Japan match, India took the lead early on but Japan equalized before half-time. In the final quarter, Sushila Chanu scored the winning goal for India. This was India’s fourth women’s hockey bronze medal at the Asian Games. The Indian women had previously won a gold medal in 1982 and a silver medal in 2018.
