A football club in Helmsdale has announced their plans to enter the North Caledonian League next season. After three years on the sidelines, Bunillidh Thistle Football Club is ready to make a comeback. The club had to withdraw from the league in 2021 due to flooding that caused damage to their social club. But now, with refurbishments complete, they are eager to get back on the pitch. The manager, Dean Cowie, is determined to put Helmsdale at the heart of the club’s ambitious rise. He believes that the village has always been passionate about football and wants to make the most of the young and hungry players in the area. The club’s social club, located next to the beautiful Couper Park, has been their home since the 1970s. It suffered a setback in 2009 when it fell into abeyance, but was revived in 2017. Unfortunately, a flood caused significant damage in 2022, but the club managed to raise funds for renovations and reopened the following year. Cowie sees this as a blessing in disguise, as the club is now better equipped and has one of the best facilities in the league. With the support of the social club committee and a dedicated group of individuals, including ex-players and local enthusiasts, Bunillidh Thistle is determined to make a strong comeback. Cowie acknowledges that the road ahead won’t be easy, but he wants his players to be competitive and enjoy the game. He aims to finish mid-table in their first season back in the league. The club’s return is eagerly anticipated by the Helmsdale community, and they are always looking for more support, whether it’s from sponsors or volunteers. The team is excited to be back on the pitch and ready to make their mark in the North Caledonian League.
