It was a great day for Bates as they dominated Johnson & Wales with a 7-0 victory in the NCAA Division III field hockey tournament. Anna Cote and Paige Cote were the stars of the show, each scoring two goals. The Bobcats are now gearing up for a second-round match against Babson on Saturday. Meanwhile, Tufts also had a strong performance, shutting out Southern Maine with a 5-0 win. Andrea DelGiudice and Kylie Rosenquest were the heroes for Tufts, each scoring twice. Katarina Villa added one goal, and the team managed to keep Southern Maine’s offense at bay. In men’s basketball, Maine had an impressive 111-59 win over Maine-Presque Isle. Kellen Tynes and Logan Carey led the charge with 18 points each, while Milos Nenadic had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. USM also had a victorious start to the season, defeating UNE 87-73. Tommy Whelan and Chance Dixon were the standout players for the Huskies, contributing 23 and 20 points respectively. In women’s basketball, UNE secured a 65-53 win over USM, with Kaylee Beyor leading the charge with 14 points. Additionally, UCONN had a remarkable 102-58 victory over Dayton, marking Paige Bueckers’ return from injury after a long hiatus. Bueckers made a strong comeback, scoring eight points and showcasing her all-round skills. It was an eventful day in college sports, with impressive performances and exciting victories.
