The Oregon women’s basketball team has just added two new players to its 2024 recruiting class. Point guard Katie Fiso and forward Faith Ehis Etute have officially signed with the Ducks, and the team couldn’t be more thrilled. Coach Kelly Graves expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m really excited about the two that we did sign and we’re still waiting. There’s a week-long period; not everybody has made their commitments yet but the two we got are really good.”
Katie Fiso, a standout player from Seattle’s Garfield High School, led her team to a third straight Washington Class 3A state championship while averaging an impressive 22 points per game. She is considered the top-ranked four-star prospect and is ranked No. 32 overall in the class of 2024 by espnW/HoopGurlz. Coach Graves had high praise for Fiso, saying, “Katie, I think — whatever the rankings say, who cares? — I think she’s the best point guard in the country. Just true, pure point guard. And I kind of know points guards. I’ve coached some good ones over the years and she’s going to be a good one.”
With Oregon down to one healthy true point guard due to a season-ending injury, there is speculation about Fiso possibly enrolling at UO midyear. Coach Graves didn’t rule out the possibility, saying, “Maybe, we’ll see, I don’t know. She’s like student body president. I don’t think the student body president can give up her senior year. It would be nice and she’s ready. She’s a college-ready player.”
Faith Ehis Etute, a 6-foot forward from Luxembourg, brings her international experience to the team. She has competed for Luxembourg’s U16 and U18 teams in the women’s European Championships and for club T71 Diddeleng. Coach Graves sees great potential in Etute, saying, “Faith I think is going to remind people of a shorter version of Nyara (Sabally). Really bouncy, strong, aggressive.”
The addition of these two talented players is a significant boost for the Oregon women’s basketball team, and fans are eagerly anticipating their contributions to the team. With the new recruits on board, the Ducks are gearing up for an exciting season ahead.
