The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Has Fired Wasim Haq For His Controversial Social Media Post, Where He Suggested That Adolf Hitler Would Be Proud Of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Haq, Who Was Appointed By The LTA In 2021 To Promote Diversity Within Tennis, Was Dismissed On Monday For His Social Media Post, As Confirmed By A Statement From The LTA.
The LTA Board Deemed Haq’S Tweet On 11 November As Unacceptable And Not In Line With The LTA’S Position Or Values. Consequently, They Have Removed Haq From His Role As An Independent Councillor With Immediate Effect. Haq Has Also Been Suspended As A Football Association Council Member Pending An Investigation.
After Deleting The Post, Haq Apologised For Any Offence He Caused And Clarified That He Is Not Anti-Semitic. He Explained That His Tweet Was A Comparison Of Two Individuals Who, In His View, Have Caused Harm To Victimised Communities On Both Sides Of The Israel-Hamas Conflict. Haq Expressed That He Is Not Targeting Any Community And Is Not Antisemitic.
In His Apology, Haq Stated That He Stands For Every Community That Is Being Marginalised And Will Continue To Do So. He Deeply Apologised To Anyone Who Was Offended And Expressed His Prayers For An End To The Tragic Conflict.
The LTA’S Decision To Sack Haq And The Subsequent Suspension From The Football Association Council Have Sparked Controversy And Raised Discussions About Freedom Of Speech And The Responsibility Of Public Figures On Social Media.
