Renault Is Finally Preparing A Successor To The Twingo. Just When We Thought The Renault Twingo Was On Its Way Out, With Plans For Retirement As Early As 2024 And No Successor In Sight, Renault Seems To Have A Plan With The Confirmation Of An Electric Model In The A Segment, Below The Upcoming R5. It’S Like The Twingo Is Getting A New Lease On Life!
According To Sources Close To The Matter, Renault Is Set To Unveil A New Affordable Electric Car, Manufactured In Europe, As Early As 2026. This Future Renault City Car Is Expected To Be Revealed On Wednesday, November 15, At The Capital Market Day Of Its Electric Division Ampère. The Model Is Said To Be Positioned Below The New R5, With A Length Of Around 3.60 Meters. It Will Fill The Void Left By The Twingo, Which Is Currently Nearing The End Of Its Life Cycle. This New City Car Could Even Take On The Name And Production Location Of The Famous “frog”, The Novo Mesto Factory In Slovenia. This Factory Currently Only Produces The Twingo (Mostly Electric) And A Portion Of The Clio’S Production.
With This Affordable Electric City Car, Renault Would Expand Its “EV” Range From The Bottom, Following The Mégane, Scénic, And Soon The R5 And R4. This Replacement For The Twingo Would Also Solve The Problem Of The Dacia Spring, Which Is Very Popular But Threatened By The New Eligibility Conditions For The Ecological Bonus. The 2024 Bonus (Conditional On The Carbon Footprint Of The Entire Production Cycle, And Penalizing Models Manufactured Outside Of Europe) Could Be A Blow To The Romanian City Car, Which Is Produced In China. The Arrival Of A Small Renault Electric Car Produced In Europe And Truly Affordable (Rumors Suggest A Price Around €20,000, Compared To €25,000 For The R5) Would Be Good News For Renault, Whose Electric Sales Figures Are Currently Below Expectations.
For Now, Renault Is Keeping Mum About Its Future City Car. We’Ll Have To Wait A Few Hours To Find Out More. Stay Tuned To Auto-Moto For The Latest Updates!
