So, guess what? The fall golf rankings are finally out, and LSU women have snagged the No. 11 spot! It’s been causing quite a stir on social media and among golf enthusiasts. The rankings, put together by Spikemark/Clippd and Professor Mark Broadie of the Columbia Business School, have got everyone talking.
In these rankings, the LSU women’s team has been ranked No. 11 in the country. And guess what? Ingrid Lindblad, a grad student and the No. 1 amateur golfer in the world, has clinched the No. 5 spot with her impressive performance this season, winning two out of three events.
These rankings are the brainchild of Professor Broadie, who was roped in by the NCAA after Spikemark’s attempt to set up a new system failed. According to a video posted on Wednesday, Broadie’s rankings aim to highlight fairness, accuracy, and transparency in rating teams. The emphasis is on stroke differential, and each result will be assigned a point value.
What’s got everyone in a tizzy is the fact that events with match play involved are given a separate and high point value for the one match against an opponent. This seems to make match play more important in acquiring points.
LSU could have a shot at match play in the SEC Championships, and of course, it’s a part of the NCAA Championships too.
Now that Spikemark/Clippd has released the official performance rankings of the NCAA, it remains to be seen whether the Women’s Golf Coaches Association will resume its suspended coaches poll and whether the Golfweek/Sagarin performance rankings will restart. Both were halted due to the lack of results available during the fall golf season when Spikemark’s system crashed on the opening day of the season.
As of November 15, here are the rankings for the top 15 teams in the Spikemark/Clippd era:
