Maine Black Bears Face Tough Loss Against Boston University

The University of Maine men’s hockey team faced a tough match against Boston University, and unfortunately, they fell short with a 3-2 loss. The game started off with a bang as Thomas Freel scored the first goal of the season for Maine just 14 seconds into the contest. However, Boston University fought back and managed to score three unanswered power-play goals, taking a 3-1 lead after two periods. Freel didn’t give up and scored a power-play goal of his own in the final period, but despite their efforts, the Black Bears couldn’t find the equalizer.

The game saw Maine leading in shots on goal with a 31-29 advantage, but Boston University capitalized on their power plays, going 3-for-5, while Maine managed to convert 1 of their 3 power-play opportunities. Victor Ostman made 26 saves for Maine, bringing his record to 6-2-1 for the year, while Mathieu Caron of Boston University finished with 29 saves.

Thomas Freel had an impressive game, scoring his first goal of the season and then adding a second, marking his first career multi-goal game. With this performance, Freel now has seven points on the year from two goals and five assists. Other notable contributors for Maine included Bradly Nadeuy, Josh Nadeau, Luke Antonacci, and Harrison Scott, each recording an assist.

In terms of historical records, Maine is now 57-74-4 all-time against Boston University, with a road game record of 20-42-7. Under head coach Ben Barr, the Black Bears are 2-6-0 against the Terriers. This game marked the first top-10 meeting between the two programs since March 16, 2012.

Looking ahead, Maine will have another chance to face off against Boston University in the closing game of the regular season series, with a puck drop scheduled for 6 p.m. at Agganis Arena.
