000 makeover. The LTA, along with the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation, made it happen through the LTA’s Park Project. The best part? They threw a huge open day for over 200 locals to come and play some tennis on Sunday 18 June. How cool is that? And get this, they’re not stopping there. They’re planning to revamp courts in other parks too, like Victoria Park, Knightswood Park, Drumchapel Park, Queens Park, Kelvingrove Park, Garrowhill Park, and Maryhill Park. It’s like a tennis revolution!
The Newlands Park courts got a serious upgrade to make sure they’re good to go for years to come. They resurfaced, repainted, put up new fencing, got new nets, and even installed a new gate system. It’s all part of a huge project to fix up old and unplayable tennis courts all over the country. That means more chances for kids and grown-ups to get out and get active.
And here’s the best bit – you can book a court online now. No more waiting around! Plus, they’ve got a new booking system and gate access tech to make it super easy. You can sign up for a household membership for just £49 a year, or just pay £6 an hour to play. And guess what? There are even some free slots available each day. How awesome is that?
The LTA and Newlands Park Community Tennis Centre are teaming up to make sure everyone gets a shot at playing tennis. They’re offering free park tennis sessions so anyone can grab a racket and join in. How cool is that? It’s all about making tennis accessible to everyone.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly from Glasgow City Council is stoked about the new tennis centre. He says it’s a great example of how local groups and the council can work together to make awesome stuff happen. And Jamie MacDonald, the Chair of Newlands Park Community Tennis Centre, is over the moon about the investment. He reckons it’s the key to keeping tennis alive and kicking for another 100 years. That’s some serious commitment!
Julie Porter, the Chief Operating Officer at the LTA, is pumped about the reopening of the courts. She’s all about getting people of all ages and abilities to pick up a racket and have a blast playing tennis. And Stuart Andrew MP, the Sports Minister, is all in on making sure everyone has a shot at playing sports. He’s chuffed about the £30 million investment to fix up courts all over the country, including the ones at Newlands Park. Who knows, maybe the next Andy Murray or Emma Raducanu is practicing there right now!
