The University of Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team faced a tough challenge when they took on the fourth-ranked Golden Gophers in their first home game series. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs fell short, losing 3-1 to the Golden Gophers.
The game started off with no scoring in the first period, but things heated up three minutes into the second period when the Gophers scored a power-play goal. The Bulldogs fought back, and junior Hanna Baskin managed to tie the game at one with an impressive even-strength goal, assisted by sophomore Danielle Burgen.
However, the Gophers quickly regained the lead, and despite the Bulldogs’ efforts, they secured a 3-1 victory with an empty-net score in the final 15 seconds of the game.
Eve Gascon, the Bulldogs’ goaltender, put up a strong performance with 29 saves, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
The two teams are set to face off again at AMSOIL Arena on Saturday at 3 p.m. for UMD’s Military Appreciation game. If you can’t make it to the arena, you can catch the game on the MY9 Sports Network.
