The Kentucky Wildcats smashed Stonehill College on Friday night and scored a whopping 101 points in the process. This season, the Cats have been on fire compared to the last few seasons. Coach John Calipari has switched up the offensive style, playing with speed in transition and spreading the floor with a 5-out concept. Kentucky is nailing three-pointers at a high rate and consistently driving to the hoop.
In the first four games of the season, the Cats have scored 81 points or more, putting them in the company of some elite teams in terms of offensive performance. According to Corey Price of the UK Sports Network, this UK team is only the second Kentucky team in the last 50 years to score 81 points or more in the first four games, joining the 1992-93 team.
What’s really special about this season is the rapid development of chemistry among the players. With a high assist-to-turnover rate, the Cats are displaying top-notch ball movement to create quality scoring opportunities every time they hit the court.
When you factor in the number of three-point shots they’re taking (and making), the average points per game could end up being the highest of the Coach Calipari era.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they maintain this level of play. If they do, we’re in for an exciting season all the way through March (and hopefully April)!
