Georgia Bulldogs Shine in Victory Over Mercer

Georgia women’s basketball had an impressive 77-57 victory over Mercer, and it was all thanks to the bench players! This win has improved their overall record to 3-1. The Bulldogs’ bench really showed up, outscoring Mercer’s bench 52 to 15. Javyn Nicholson and Zoesha Smith were the stars of the show, each having a career day. Nicholson scored 20 points, and Smith marked a new season-high of 18 points.

The Bulldogs are still finding their groove behind the arc, but they made up for it by dominating under the basket. They outscored Mercer by a whopping 30 points in the paint, leaving the Bears with no answer. Nicholson really shone in the third quarter, scoring eight points and widening Georgia’s lead.

Mercer tried to keep up, with Deja Williams and Briana Peguero leading the charge. They combined for 25 points and seven 3-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to catch up. Despite only outrebounding Mercer by two, Destiny Thomas had an outstanding game with 11 rebounds, six points, and two assists.

In addition to their strong bench and paint performance, Georgia capitalized on turnovers, converting 20 Mercer turnovers into 32 points. De’Mauri Flournoy and Chloe Chapman led the Bulldogs in steals, with five and three respectively.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs are gearing up for the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship in Nassau, Bahamas. They’ll face off against Columbia on Nov. 20 and Purdue on Nov. 22.
