Syracuse vs Tennessee: Clash in the Maui Invitational

Syracuse men’s basketball is all set to take on Tennessee in the Maui Jim Invitational tournament in Hawaii. This is the first time since 2013 that the Orange are participating in this tournament. It’s a big deal because Tennessee is ranked number seven in the nation and it’s the first major test for Syracuse this season.

Syracuse has a good track record in the Maui Jim Invitational, having won the tournament in each of their first three appearances. However, this season is different as they are the only team in the tournament, apart from the host school, that didn’t make it to the 2023 NCAA tournament.

Tennessee, on the other hand, is in great form and has already proven themselves against tough opponents. Led by fifth year guard Dalton Knecht, the Vols have been dominating with impressive wins. Knecht, who transferred from Northern Colorado, has been a standout player, averaging 19.7 points per game and is even being considered for the Wooden award.

Syracuse, coming off a thrilling 79-75 win over Colgate, is heading to Hawaii as the underdogs. Their remarkable comeback in the game against Colgate showcased their determination and resilience. The Orange will need to bring the same intensity as they face tough competition in the Maui Invitational, which includes top-ranked teams like Kansas, Purdue, Marquette, and Gonzaga.

The matchup between Syracuse and Tennessee is scheduled for Monday at 2:30 p.m. EST. Fans can catch all the action from Hawaii on WAER, starting with the McClurg Remodeling Countdown to Tipoff at 2:00.
