Albert Lea Tigers Suffer Tough Loss in Holiday Hockey Tournament

The Albert Lea girls’ hockey team had a challenging match against Pine City in the Tiger Classic Holiday tournament. Despite a valiant effort, the Tigers ended up losing 4-3 after a hard-fought battle in overtime.

The game started off slow with a scoreless first period. However, Pine City managed to take the lead with a 2-0 advantage during the second period. Showing great resilience, the Tigers then made an impressive comeback, scoring three unanswered goals.

Shelby Evans was the first to score for Albert Lea, with an assist from Morgan Goskeson. Eighth-grade defenseman Peyton Seeger also made a significant contribution, scoring her first varsity goal and tying the game with an assist from Zizi Willett. Freshman Brooke Hauser then gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead with assists from Seeger and Goskeson.

In a fast-paced third period, Pine City managed to tie the game at three before ultimately securing the victory with a game-winning goal in overtime, at the 5:40 mark. Despite the outcome, Rachel Doppelhammer, the Tigers’ goalkeeper, made an impressive 17 saves out of 21 shots.

Although the Tigers faced a tough loss, they will now be gearing up to compete against Waconia in the third-place game on Saturday morning at 9:30.
