The Singapore women’s Masters team has made history by securing sponsorship from five international companies for the upcoming Asian Continental Cup. This is a significant achievement for the team and a boost for women’s hockey in Singapore.
The team, competing in the Over 40s category, has attracted support from global derivatives marketplace CME Group, consumer family healthcare company Colief, global insurance specialists Newline Group, financial trading platform 24 Exchange, and independent global maritime consultancy Solis Marine. These sponsors will receive maximum brand exposure through the team’s kit, social media promotion, and livestreamed matches.
In addition to their sporting goals, the team aims to encourage more women to participate in competitive sports, especially at the Masters level. Ping Tan, co-founder of the women’s veterans and masters hockey movement in Singapore, expressed her delight at the support from international sponsors and emphasized the importance of strengthening local leagues and future international tournaments.
Rachel Flynn, CEO at Newline Asia Services and an international hockey forward, highlighted the long-term goals of raising the profile of women’s hockey and creating more opportunities for women and girls in team sports. The sponsors’ support will contribute to building towards the 2024 World Cup.
Research has shown that women who play sports have higher levels of education and confidence. They are also more likely to be in management roles and are motivated to achieve long-term goals. Employers benefit from the increased effectiveness of active female staff.
The team, consisting of 18 players including two goalkeepers, will travel to Hong Kong for the Asian Continental Cup. This tournament will feature over 600 participants from across Asia competing for the Cup. It is an exciting opportunity for the Singapore women’s Masters team to showcase their skills and make their mark in the hockey world.
