The Stonehill College men’s ice hockey team experienced a tough loss as they were defeated 4-0 by Union College. The game took place at Union College’s Messa Rink at the Achilles Center over the weekend, resulting in the Skyhawks dropping to a record of 0-14-0 for the year.
During the match, four different players from Union College managed to score goals, with Chaz Smedsrud and Brandon Buhr each securing their fifth goals of the season. Additionally, John Prokop provided his 12th assist of the season, while Nate Hanley contributed with his ninth assist. Union’s netminder, Kyle Chauvette, delivered an impressive performance, achieving a shutout and improving his record to 6-4-0 on the year with 21 saves. On the opposing team, Stonehill’s goalie, sophomore Dylan Meilun, made 32 saves despite the loss, with junior Henri Schreifels leading the Skyhawks with five shots on goal.
The game saw Union taking an early lead in the first period, securing a power-play goal within the first two minutes. As the match progressed, the Chargers were able to score three more goals, ultimately resulting in a 4-0 victory over the Skyhawks. Despite both teams having opportunities in the third period, neither managed to score, leading to the final 4-0 score in favor of Union College.
Looking ahead, the Stonehill men’s ice hockey team is scheduled for a road matchup against Utica College on Friday, December 1st at 7 p.m. at the Utica Nexus Center.
