Aspiring New Captain Drives Golf Success

Harry Kell, a 16-year-old member of the Sandiway Golf Club, has been appointed as the new captain of the Cheshire boys golf team. With an impressive handicap of -2, Harry has set his sights on leading the county team to success in upcoming tournaments such as the Four Counties at Formby Golf Club and the Little Six. In addition, he aims to make substantial contributions to the men’s county team’s pursuit of silverware both this year and in the future. Harry’s impressive track record includes notable achievements such as winning the Sandiway ‘Brunner Bowl’ men’s knockout, making him the youngest winner in the club’s esteemed history. He has also been a key player in the under 16s and under 18s boys’ successes for the past 18 months.

Of particular note is Harry’s consistent involvement in the North West England Regional Squad for two consecutive years, alongside his Cheshire boys teammates. His remarkable individual performance in golf tournaments, including a joint third-place finish in the North Of England Under 16 tournament and participating in every boys Northern League match this year, has been pivotal in the county’s triumphs.

Harry’s golf journey commenced on his 10th birthday when he was granted membership to the Sandiway Golf Club. Since then, he has progressed through the Cheshire county programme, excelling in various age groups and showcasing his skills on regional and national levels. As a fourth-generation golfer, Harry draws inspiration from his family’s golfing legacy as well as from professional golfer Tommy Fleetwood, whom he knows personally.

In recognition of Harry’s exceptional qualities, the Cheshire Union of Golf has expressed confidence in his leadership as the county boys captain. Harry’s coaches and mentors, including Graham Tonge, Peter Barber, John Heggarty, James Thompson, Rhys Ingram, Ron Harrison, and Andrew Henshall, have all played a significant role in supporting his golfing journey.

Harry Kell’s appointment as the Cheshire boys golf team captain marks a significant milestone in his golfing career, and his determination, talent, and character bode well for his future success in the sport.
