Late Rally Leads Penn State Women’s Ice Hockey to 6-5 Victory Over Dartmouth
The Penn State women’s ice hockey team orchestrated an impressive comeback, securing a 6-5 victory over Dartmouth after an enthralling match on Friday night.
The opening period commenced with Alyssa Machado scoring for Penn State, closely followed by a goal from Dartmouth’s Laura Fuoco, levelling the score at 1-1. Dartmouth then gained the lead with a goal from Hamilton Doster, giving them a 2-1 advantage. However, Maggie MacEachern secured a tie for Penn State with a goal just before the period concluded.
Dartmouth then surged ahead in the second period, reaching a 4-2 lead, but Penn State retaliated with goals from Lyndie Lobdell and Katelyn Roberts, setting the stage for an exhilarating third period.
The game witnessed a shift in momentum in the final period, with both teams exchanging goals until Mya Vaslet netted the game-winner off a rebound, securing the 6-5 victory for Penn State with only 14 seconds remaining on the clock.
In goal, senior Josie Bothun made 12 saves and allowed four goals, while senior Annie Spring celebrated her first collegiate win in net, making 10 saves and conceding just one goal.
Maggie MacEachern achieved a significant milestone by scoring her 50th collegiate point, with both MacEachern and Tessa Janecke playing pivotal roles in the team’s success, each tallying three points.
Penn State’s victory marked their first win against an ECAC opponent this year, with Annie Spring emerging as the standout performer, earning her first collegiate victory in net.
Looking ahead, Penn State is eager to continue their winning streak as they aim for a series sweep of Dartmouth on Saturday, November 25 at 2 p.m.
