Exciting Victory for Macalester College Men’s Basketball Team

The men’s basketball team of Macalester College achieved an exhilarating victory against St. Olaf, securing a final score of 86-82. The game took place on Wednesday evening at the Leonard Center, marking the Scots’ fourth win of the season, resulting in an overall record of 4-2 and a 1-1 mark in conference play. Conversely, the Oles dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC.

The game commenced with a strong performance from Macalester, as junior guard Tom Andreae from Newton, Mass. made two three-pointers, contributing eight points in a 10-3 run. Although St. Olaf momentarily took a 13-12 lead, the Scots swiftly regained control, leading 22-15 with 12:11 remaining in the first half. Despite a commendable effort from St. Olaf, Macalester concluded the first half with a 43-38 lead.

The second half witnessed a game-changing 17-6 run from the Scots, allowing them to reclaim the lead. The team’s impressive offensive prowess was evidenced by a total of 12 three-pointers, with the Scots making 12-of-28 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc. Specifically, sophomores Noah Shannon and Eric Wentz delivered standout performances, achieving career highs throughout the game. Wentz notably contributed six three-pointers, resulting in a career-high of 22 points, while Shannon demonstrated an outstanding performance with 15 rebounds and 13 points.

The game culminated in a thrilling finish, with Macalester ultimately emerging victorious with an 86-82 win. The team’s next challenge will be a MIAC game against St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. on Saturday, Dec. 2, with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
